At What Age Do People Generally Stop Getting Acne?

There is a misconception among people that teenagers are the only ones who experience acne breakouts. They think that once the teenage years are passed acne would not appear. They are wrong, because acne sometimes appears in older ages as well. For many people, it is in fact a chronic problem and refuses to leave even after attaining adulthood. Mostly it clears up but sometimes leaves indelible scars on the body as well as the mind.

Getting infected with acne at an older age is due to many factors like menstrual periods, usage of birth control medications and stress. People have a misconception that the excessive intake of dairy products, sweets and chocolates causes acne breakouts. It is not true and is at best just a myth. The only ingredient which aggravates acne, according to several studies, is iodine. Iodine consumption has been linked to acne and is believed to aggravate the problem.

Another misconception is that a dirty face and body causes acne. It is not the case though proper hygiene helps in preventing acne. Acne is mainly caused by genes that you have inherited. If a mature woman gets affected with acne suddenly prompt medical attention is advised as it could be due to a tumor caused by hormone production.

Women are more prone to acne attacks at a mature age than men. There have been several studies conducted to find the reason for this phenomenon. The findings in most have been that women are prone to acne attacks at a mature age because of stress that is added to hormonal changes. When it becomes chronic the skin becomes oilier and acne attacks become common. With more work responsibilities at home and office, stress was high and stress was the common link between women and acne. To combat acne one needs to get sufficient rest. But most people do not get proper rest as they are balancing their jobs and their education and in turn getting stressed out which leads to breakouts of acne. Sleeping eight hours every night is a necessity.

Another factor for midlife acne is cosmetics used by women. Many women unknowingly use cosmetics, which are bad for their skin. Many cosmetics contain oils derived from fatty acids as their base and these fatty acids aid in acne breakouts. This condition is known as acne cosmetica. Another mistake is using cosmetics over acne, which usually aggravates the problem. You should use specially formulated cosmetics, which do not aggravate or help in acne breakouts.

There are several medications available in the market that would be of help to prevent acne among mature women. One type of medication is topical lotions and creams. The other type of medication is orally consumed, but it should be ideally prescribed by a dermatologist. However, women during pregnancy should not use these medications. If the skin is scarred, your dermatologist may suggest cosmetic treatments like Dermbrasion.

Whatever the case if proper care is taken you can stop outbreaks of acne and the most important thing is that on reaching 50 years of age you will quit getting acne.
